Beijing, March 10: The Chinese Commerce Ministry reported on Thursday ( Apr 10 ) that China and the European Union have exchanged views on strengthening their economic and trade cooperation in response to US tariffs.
China’s Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and European Commission Commissioner Maros Sefcovic discussed the start of business discussions and the start of negotiations on electric car price commitments in a video call on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Chinese government.
The meeting took place just before the addition of taxes on China by US President Donald Trump began to become effective.
Trump has announced on Wednesday that, in a beautiful reverse, he will partially lower the big duties he had merely imposed on dozens of nations. He, however, increased his tariffs on China and threatened to levy them to 12 %, which he did.
Wang told Sefcovic that China is ready to intensify industry, investment, and commercial cooperation with the EU.
