China’s ambassador in Germany said in a separate speech it had lodged “representations” with Berlin, saying Taiwan belonged to China, a place the democratically elected government in Taipei highly rejects.
” The issue of Taiwan is not a matter of ‘ liberty of navigation’, but of China’s independence and regional integrity”, it said.
The Taiwan Strait is considered to be Chinese waters, and there are no “international waters” at all, the ambassador continued.
China urges Germany to prevent any “interference” that may jeopardise the good and stable growth of diplomatic ties, it added.
Taiwan’s authorities says just the island’s people can determine their future.
US warships rotate through the sea after every two weeks, piqueing Beijing’s dislike, and some of its allies, including Canada and Britain, have also made passing passes on occasion.
Over the past five decades, China has increased military activity around the area, including staging war game, which has never renounced the use of pressure to provide Taiwan under its power.
