Car giants vie for EV crown at Beijing’s Auto China show

According to statistics compiled by Bloomberg, there are a remarkable 129 EV models in China, but only 20 have been able to capture a regional business share of 1 % or more.

BYD, a Shenzhen-based power and mechanical giant that defeated Tesla in next month’s fourth quarter to become the world’s leading seller of EVs, will be one of the most closely watched companies.

In the first third of this year, Tesla regained that position, but BYD continues to dominate in its native business.

At the occasion, the company is anticipated to reveal its earliest electric pick, the BYD Shark.

The Shark’s rate has yet to be disclosed, but BYD has said it may become equipped with the fund’s dedicated off- street technology program.

Traditional automakers will also be present, which have struggled to keep up with a growing wave of home rivals in recent years.

Ford has taken action to stop a decline in sales in its most significant sector, after losing its crown last year to BYD as the best-selling brand in China.

The German automaker made the announcement earlier this month that it would invest 2.5 billion euros ( US$ 2.7 billion ) to expand an Anhui province’s production and innovation hub.

It has also made tens of billions of dollars in its pivot to electric vehicles, including by acquiring a majority stake in Chinese carmaker XPeng next year.
