ByteDance cuts over 700 jobs in Malaysia in shift towards AI moderation, sources say

KUALA LUMPUR: China’s ByteDance, the parent of social media platform TikTok, has laid off more than 700 employees from its Indonesian system as the organization shifts target towards greater use of AI in glad restraint, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. &nbsp,

The employees, the majority of whom worked in the company’s content editing division, were informed of their dismissal by email late on Wednesday ( October 9 ), according to the sources, who emailed them asking for anonymity because they were not permitted to speak to the media.

In response to Reuters ‘ queries, TikTok confirmed the layoffs on Friday, but it was unable to provide a precise number of employees in Malaysia.

As part of a wider plan to improve its moderation operations, it anticipates that several hundred people will be affected globally. To review content posted on the website, TikTok employs a combination of automated detection and human moderators.

Bytedance has over 110, 000 employees in more than 200 cities globally, according to the company website.

One of the sources said that the technology company is also considering more layoffs next month as it tries to consolidate some of its regional operations. &nbsp,
