Malaysia police submit probe into ex-PM Muhyiddin’s remarks on former king’s role in government formation to AGC

The Attorney-General’s Chambers has received information from the original Indonesian prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin regarding the formation of the present state for further investigation.

However, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said that 66 individuals have had their remarks taken as part of the studies.

” We have also recorded Muhyiddin’s speech, and he has answered all the questions. According to state news agency Bernama on Wednesday ( Aug 21 ), he was cited as saying that the investigation papers have also been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.

Muhyiddin, who is currently the leader of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia ( Bersatu), earlier in the day, gave his speech to the police after being summoned over new remarks he made in Kelantan in the lead-up to a state congressional by-election there last week.

Muhyiddin was subject to a number of police reports, including those from the Pahang Palace, for allegedly questioning the role of Malaysia’s king in the formation of the government following the 15th General Election ( GE15 ) in November 2022.

Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who ruled the Pahang region at the time, resigned as king earlier this year as part of Malaysia’s special circular monarchy program.

According to The New Straits Times, there are currently 30 reports being filed against Muhyiddin, all of which involve investigations under Sections 4 ( 1 ) and 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 504 of the Penal Code.

Muhyiddin, who is also the leader of the opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional ( PN), questioned the formation of the current unity government following GE15 in a clip of his speech that was reportedly given on August 15.

In the clip, Muhyiddin stressed that he had the help of 115 politicians to form Malaysia’s future state. Since then, the film has gone viral.

Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, the former prime minister, was the subject of a police report led to him requesting action against him for comment he claimed he had incited distrust in the Malay royal organization.

Muhyiddin declared his nobility to the monarchy in a Facebook post on August 21 after being interrogated by the police and claimed in a Facebook post that he had” no purpose at all to attack” the Malaysian royal institution.

He wrote,” My devotion to the establishment of the constitutional monarch should not be challenged because I take refuge under the queen and splendor of the Malay monarchs.”

However, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil told local press that Muhyiddin’s position has put his party in poor lighting.

” I personally witnessed the previous prime minister’s discourse on TikTok live. If I’m not mistaken, the journalist is the PAS group network. So, blame PAS for the broadcasting of the speech on TikTok Live, if you want to blame any party, according to Mr. Fahmi, who was quoted by the Malay Mail as saying in reference to the Islamist Parti Islam Se-Malaysia ( PAS ).

Along with Muhyiddin’s Bersatu and Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia ( Gerakan ), PAS is a component party of PN.

Individually, Lawyers for Liberty, a non-governmental organization dedicated to individual rights and law reform, demanded that the government stop conducting an investigation into the former prime minister under the Sedition Act.

The ruler is a legal monarch, according to its director Zaid Malek, who stated on August 21 that” the exercise of a legal duty of power may be beyond discussion or criticism.”

According to Mr. Zaid,” The government and the Prime Minister should never condone Muhyiddin’s actions nor may they enable the use of the Sedition Act.”

Commentary: A 7-Eleven buyout would stretch Japan’s appetite for M&A

A CRUCIAL LIFELINE

However, accepting a acquisition of Seven &amp, document, a deal which had dwarf earlier foreign takeovers of Chinese firms, feels like a extend. This is no private maker of parts, but a pretty close-to-hand and favorite product that exists in every district in the country and is inhabited daily&nbsp, by some 20 million people, or&nbsp, a fifth of the population.

7-Eleven has also been the greatest pioneer in the convenience store space: It pioneered the sale of onigiri rice balls in the 1970s and built out a great range&nbsp, of inexpensive, clean and amazingly nutritious food with its just-in-time inventory management. The monopoly of banks that ended at 3 p.m. and on weekends was broken by allowing customers to withdraw money at any time.

From the introduction of affordable, fresh coffee to its recent plans to compete with Domino’s Pizza in meal delivery, Seven continues to make its stores more essential. &nbsp, In times of disaster, the conbini is now seen by locals and authorities alike as a crucial lifeline. &nbsp,

But none of this impresses investors. Since its initial tussle with activist shareholders when Third Point founder Dan Loeb took a stake in the business in 2015, the company has undergone a number of changes. It has reduced its supermarket footprint, sold the Sogo-Seibu department store chain, and instituted share buybacks, as well as appointed Ryuichi Isaka, the current CEO and Loeb favorite.

But even so, the stock still&nbsp, trades&nbsp, around &nbsp, the same level as before Loeb announced his stake. Dissatisfaction with the recent market performance&nbsp, led to ValueAct Capital Management’s attempting to oust Isaka. &nbsp, &nbsp,

The most recent move by management has been an aggressive expansion of its US convenience store business, where it believes it can make money with the roll-out of Japanese-style food options. With the takeover bid, the concern will be the opposite in its home country- whose conbini still make up more than 40 per cent of Seven &amp, i’s operating profit- that&nbsp, a Couche-Tard purchase will instead bring a subpar&nbsp, experience. &nbsp,

Indonesia’s Golkar party elects chairman with ties to Jokowi; analysts say move benefits outgoing president

CHAIRMANSHIP A “STRATEGIC POSITION”&nbsp,

Al Azhar University Indonesia’s Ujang Komarudin, a political analyst, told CNA that Mr. Bahlil’s session as Golkar chair must have been approved by Mr. Widodo. &nbsp,

” The chairman of Golkar must have a strategic position, ( Mr) Bahlil fulfills that requirement, because he is now an extension of Jokowi”, said Mr Ujang, referring to a commonly used name of Mr Widodo. &nbsp,

He added:” In this environment, whoever the leader is, Golkar will always be under the direction of the leader. But later when Prabowo becomes leader, the Golkar chair may be close to him too” .&nbsp,

Social analyst Aditya Perdana believes that Golkar’s former chairman Airlangga Hartarto’s shock resignation was likely result of the intervention of” two powerful people”- Mr. Widodo and Mr. Prabowo- in order for them to benefit in the future. &nbsp,

” So they need a strong ( man leading ) Golkar, a determine who can assist them in the next five years, particularly Mr Prabowo”, Mr Aditya- a social teacher with the University of Indonesia- told CNA. &nbsp,

On August 10, Mr. Airlangga resigned from his position in the group, which was earlier predicted to be advantageous for Mr. Widodo.

Soon after Mr Airlangga’s departure, Golkar announced it would maintain a national conference to appoint a new president. The appointment was originally scheduled for December, but rather took place on August 20 and 21.

Mr Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, the group’s time chair, denied that the two-day parliament was a mere politeness to nominate Mr Bahlil as the fresh chair. &nbsp,

” This is not a ( mere ) formality. This democratic plan needs to be put into action by the gathering. To get ready for the social plan that will come up next, especially the local elections, Mr. Agus told IDN Times.

However, political spectator Dr. Cecep Hidayat from the University of Indonesia predicted that Mr. Bahlil’s close relationships to Mr. Widodo and Mr. Prabowo will be crucial to a successful move to the upcoming government.

He thinks Mr. Bahlil might be given a higher supervisory position within Mr. Prabowo’s coming management. &nbsp,

” Bahlil could fill a relatively higher post, such as ( that of a ) coordinating minister”, Dr Cecep told CNA.

However, Ali Mochtar Ngabalin’s statement from Golkar legislator Ali Mochtar Ngabalin on August 20 that party leaders have requested that Mr. Widodo been the chairman of Golkar’s Board of Trustees may be a sign of things to come.

In order to determine several party plans, the Board of Trustees is tasked with providing guidance and suggestions to Golkar group leaders.

Golkar people informed the local media that Mr. Bahlil, the group’s newly-elected president, is in charge of appointing somebody as chair of its Board of Trustees. &nbsp,

And if Mr. Widodo does indeed resign from office in October, according to analysts, the party may give him a platform to expand his social influence outside of the Palace. &nbsp,

Previous Indonesian President Soeharto served in this advisory capacity up until he resigned in 1998. And Mr. Soeharto had complete control over setting Golkar’s party policy at the time, even though he was n’t the party chair.

A potential shift by Mr. Widodo to add Golkar will help keep his political strength and proper negotiations positions intact, according to Mr. Agung Baskoro, a political researcher at the consulting firm Trias Politika Strategis. &nbsp,

” Jokowi is a strong figure, has a clear mass base, ( and ) his track record is quite good at the executive level”, Mr Agung told CNA.
