China’s military on Tuesday (Aug 2) vowed to release “targeted military actions” in response to US Home Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, since tensions flare among Washington and Beijing.
Pelosi landed from Taipei’s Songshan Airport terminal on a military airplane late on Wednesday , becoming the highest-ranked elected US official to visit Taiwan in 25 years.
In a statement times after her plane landed, Pelosi stated her visit shows Washington’s “unwavering commitment to supporting Taiwan’s vibrant democracy”.
She additional that her trip “in no way” contradicted official US policy, which acknowledges “one China”.
