Amazon bids to buy TikTok as deadline looms, US administration official says

A US administration official stated on Wednesday ( Apr 2 ) that Amazon.com made a last-minute offer to purchase TikTok, just days before the short-form video app’s April 5 deadline to find a non-Chinese buyer or face a ban in the nation.

A White House national told Reuters on Tuesday that US President Donald Trump will take up the app’s death at an Oval Office meeting on Wednesday and take into account a last request.

Amazon and its parent company ByteDance did not immediately respond to Reuters ‘ requests for comment, while TikTok and its parent company did not respond to those requests. Following the release, Amazon stocks increased 1.3 percent in a size increase.

The latest brand to appear in a list of documented buyers is the US tech and e-commerce huge. Trump claimed next month that his administration was speaking with four distinct organizations about the platform’s sale without revealing any of them.

According to a report released last week by Reuters, private equity firm Blackstone is considering joining ByteDance’s existing non-Chinese owners, led by Susquehanna International Group and General Atlantic, to contribute new money to a charge for TikTok’s US company.

The Financial Times reported on Tuesday that US venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz is in talks to add additional outside funding to the pay to buy TikTok’s Foreign investors as part of Oracle and other American buyers.
