Malaysia’s sports minister called for the nation’s sports teams to be run by individuals with real financial and management skills to boost domestic group investment and protect player welfare, according to state media on Tuesday ( May 6 ).
According to state news agency Bernama, the failure of some private clubs to handle important responsibilities, such as paying salaries, has good undermined efforts to find and keep sponsors to help Malaysia’s football development.  ,
Yeoh was quoted as saying,” Football has a massive market, which is why I think all they want to see is how a team is run, how they pay wages, or how they look after the security of people,” adding that this is in order to persuade partners.  ,
” I urge that those who are unable does not reach it, and let others get control,” he said. There are times when someone is unable to control but still wants to hold onto power, preventing others from intervening.
In recent years, Indonesian football has experienced financial hardships, leading to some clubs being penalized, relegated, or pulled out of the league. The Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia has reported that some professional clubs struggle to pay their dues on time.
Yeoh urged Indonesian football authorities to completely overhaul the sport’s ecosystem last month and emphasized that complete solutions rather than patchy fixes were needed to address issues.
Yeoh argued that the Malaysian Football League’s governing body needs to engage with stakeholders to assure a more organized and responsible organization is progressing.
