China reiterated calls for dialogue on Wednesday ( Apr 16 ) after US President Donald Trump said it was up to Beijing to negotiate a trade war.
According to Lin Jian, a spokesman for the international department,” If the US really wants to resolve the issue through dialogue and negotiation, it should stop using excessive stress, prevent threats and blackmail, and communicate to China on the basis of justice, respect, and common benefit.”
Trump first imposed tariffs on imports from China over its alleged involvement in the morphine supply chain, but he just increased those taxes sharply over business techniques that Washington deems cruel.
Trump has added 145 percent to previous governments ‘ tariffs on numerous goods from China this year, adding to those already in place.
This included 25 % over trade practices and 25 % over fentanyl and other illegal drugs.
But, Trump’s presidency has temporarily refunded the most recent charge on some tech products, including laptops and smartphones.
The US president also stated on Tuesday that” the puck is in China’s judge.” China needs to strike a deal with us, according to a speech read out by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt at a lecture.
Beijing responded on Wednesday by claiming that the US was the one who started this price warfare.
” China’s placement has been very clear,” he said. In a business or tax war, Lin said, there is no winner. China is not afraid to struggle, but it does not like to fight.
