EU, Beijing set to hold summit in China in July

A representative for the European Council announced on Friday ( Apr 11 ) that top EU officials and Chinese leaders are scheduled to hold their next summit on July, marking 50 years of ties in, China.

Before US President Donald Trump took office and unleashed broad tariffs, the European Union had made ideas for a conference in January.

The official at the council, which represents the EU’s 27 nations, said,” We are coordinating with&nbsp, China&nbsp, to set a date for the meeting, which is anticipated to take place in&nbsp, China&nbsp, in the second half of July.”

With its effort to hold the line on its own trade issues regarding  China, the union is trying to deal with an unexpected ally in Washington to minimize taxes and the need to expand trading partners.

In response to taxes imposed by Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping earlier on Friday urged the Union to join hands with Beijing in demonstrating resistance to “unilateral bullying.”

The Council and the European Commission have been regularly summited by the minds of the EU’s two major organizations, but they did not happen in 2024.
