Pentagon chief says US will ensure ‘deterrence’ across Taiwan Strait

Japan :  The United States will ensure “robust, ready and credible deterrence” in the Indo-Pacific, including across the Taiwan Strait, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said on Sunday ( Mar 30 ), calling Chinese actions “aggressive and coercive”.

” America is committed to sustaining powerful, available and reliable punishment in the Indo-Pacific, including across the Taiwan Strait,” Hegseth said in Japan after speaks with rival Gen Nakatani.

” Japan would be on the top ranges of any emergency we may encounter in the northern Pacific and we stand up in support of each other.

” That’s why nowadays Minister Nakatani and I talked about the significant and urgent safety culture around Japan, and we discussed what we are going to do about it,” Hegseth told investigators.

Beijing has stepped up military force in recent years around Taiwan, including near-daily heat attacks, and has not ruled out using power to take the area under its power.

” Today’s sessions have affirmed the extraordinary durability of America’s ally with Japan. After today’s conversation, it is obvious to me that our empire is the basis of peace and security in the Indo Pacific dialogue,” Hegseth said.

” America and Japan stand strongly up in the face of violent and aggressive behavior by the Communist Chinese. “
