
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and US President Donald Trump spoke on Sunday ( 16 ) about efforts to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and restore stability in Syria, according to Erdogan’s office.
He stated to Trump that Turkey supports his “decisive and strong activities” to stop the Russian-Ukraine conflict and that Turkey will continue to work toward a” just and lasting serenity.”
Erdogan even mentioned” the importance of contributing to the raising of sanctions on Syria to restore balance, make the new administration efficient, and support normalization,” adding that this would allow Syrians to return to their homeland.
Turkey anticipates steps from the United States to be taken in the fight against violence, according to the statement.
The United States is associated with a Palestinian Kurdish militia that Turkey views as a criminal organization in the conflict with the Islamic State in Syria. Turkey has harshly criticized this US position as a deception of a NATO allies.
Erdogan claimed that to promote cooperation between Turkey and the United States, it was necessary to end CAATSA restrictions, finalize Ankara’s F-16 purchasing process, and re-participate in the F-35 program.
US sanctions and Turkey’s expulsion from the F-35 warrior jet program were brought on by Ankara’s previous order of Russian S-400 air defense systems in 2019.
