This year, two United States Navy ships made their first voyage across the troubled Taiwan Strait, drawing ire from China, which claimed the voyage raised security risks.
The US Navy, often accompanied by ships from allied places, transits the sea about once a month. China, which claims Taiwan as its own country, says the proper lake belongs to it.
The two US ships, named Lyndon B. Johnson and Bowditch, passed through the strait between Monday ( Feb. 10 ), according to China’s military, adding that Chinese forces had been dispatched to keep watch.
The Women’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Theatre Command stated in a speech early on Wednesday that” the US behavior sends the wrong signals and increases stability risks.”
The US Navy did not respond to a request for comment right away.
China’s military operates everyday in the peninsula as part of what Taiwan’s authorities views as part of Beijing’s stress strategy.
