A deputy minister stated on Tuesday ( Feb 11 ) that Indonesia wants to increase the share of renewable energy under its electricity supply plan over the next ten years, citing increased solar, hydro, and geothermal capacity.
The new plan, known locally as RUPTL, may change Indonesia’s 2021-2030 RUPTL in which a full of 40.6 gigawatts of new power was planned, with around 52 per cent of it from renewable energy.
According to Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, deputy State Owned Enterprise Minister, the government is finalizing the discussion of the electricity plan with state utility Perusahaan Listrik Negara ( PLN), in which 70 % of the planned additional 71 gigawatts will be generated by renewable energy sources.
He stated at a business website in Jakarta that” this will increase the combination of alternative energy from about 12 % to about 35 % in 2034.”
Under the approaching program, Indonesia aims to build 17 Facebook renewable energy potential, including supporting battery systems, 16 GW of hydro power, and 5 GW of volcanic power, as well as other sources such as wind and bioenergy, he said.
Up until 2034, about 5 GW of novel coal power is anticipated, according to Kartika.
He said,” We will still work on some of the coal projects, but this is just coming off the rails of the previous plan.”
Up until 2034, about 15 GW of gas power capacity is anticipated to be constructed, specifically to support the foundation load capacity for Java, he added.
Indonesia forbids the construction of new coal power plants in 2022, aside from those that are already in the network and those that are integrated with the control of natural resources as long as they have an emission reduction plan.
