WASHINGTON : India is prepared to take back its individuals residing illegally in the United States, foreign secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has said after meeting the best minister of President Donald Trump’s new leadership.
Jaishankar’s remarks came after a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Tuesday ( Jan 23 ) a day after Trump’s inauguration.
Trump issued a raft of professional commands this week that purpose to lock down on illegal immigration and quicken his purpose of deporting thousands of immigrants.
Jaishankar said New Delhi was open to taking up illegal Indians and was in the process of verifying those in the United States who could be deported to India.
” We want American skill and Indian capabilities to have the greatest chance at the international stage. At the same time, we are also very strongly opposed to illegal freedom and improper movement,” Jaishankar told a group of Indian investigators in Washington on Wednesday.
” Therefore, with every country, and the US is no different, we have usually taken the watch that if any of our members are here illegally, and if we are confident that they are our people, we have always been available to their genuine return to India. “
Jaishankar was responding to a comment on media reports that India was working with the Trump presidency on the imprisonment of about 18,000 Indians who are either illegal, or have overstayed their visa.
