India’s defence minister cites power rivalry in Indian Ocean region

The Indian Ocean area is where a large portion of the world’s trade and commerce occurs. The region is also gaining ground in the global power conflict, according to Defence Minister Singh during the ceremony involving one navy ship and one submarine in Mumbai.

He said 95 per share of India’s deal, in terms of size, is linked to the Indian Ocean area. ” In such a circumstance, the presence of a powerful Indian Navy becomes our biggest priority”, he said.

India has sought to counter China as Beijing grows its effect in India’s village through purchases and development initiatives in Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

By 2035, New Delhi intends to build a 175-ship maritime force, placing an increasing emphasis on domestically produced components, but analysts claim that the speed of construction is sluggish compared to China, which builds nearly 14 warships annually while India builds only four.
