One Indian national killed, another wounded while serving in Russian army

The Indian foreign ministry announced on Tuesday ( Jan 14 ) that one Indian national who was purportedly recruited by the Russian army has died while another was receiving treatment for injuries at a Moscow hospital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration reiterated its need for the first discharge of all American citizens serving in the Soviet army, according to a statement from the ministry. The state has” strongly taken up” the problem with Russian authorities in Moscow and with the Russian Embassy in New Delhi.

The government stated that” we are working with the Russian authorities to get the earthly remains to India in a hurry.” We have even requested that the wounded man be discharged first and be returned to India. Both came from the southeastern state of Kerala, it said.

Four people were detained by American authorities in May on suspicion of luring younger males to Russia with the promise of lucrative work or school places just to make them struggle in the conflict with Ukraine.

Following the incidents of Indian immigrants during the battle last year, New Delhi demanded that the Russian military put an end to their recruitment and urged Indians to be cautious when applying for jobs in Russia.

About 45 American citizens were discharged from the Soviet troops and attempts were afoot to get a farther 50 released, India’s foreign ministry said in September.
