China calls Pentagon report on Chinese military corruption ‘irresponsible’

WASHINGTON: &nbsp, China’s foreign government urged the United States to prevent issuing “irresponsible information” after the Pentagon said that fraud in the Chinese government may have disrupted the government’s military reform goals.

The report ignores facts and is full of prejudice, Lin Jian, a ministry spokesperson, said in a Thursday ( Dec 19 ) press conference.

According to the Pentagon in its yearly report on Beijing’s defense, bribery in China’s government may have hindered its efforts to achieve its 2027 military modernization goals. &nbsp,

China’s military has gone through a comprehensive anti-corruption purge since last year, and the defense ministry announced last month that a senior military official had been suspended and was being looked into for” serious breaches of control.”

According to the Pentagon’s extensive review, at least 15 senior Chinese military officers and directors in the defense sector were fired from their positions between July and December 2023. &nbsp,

The PLA experienced a new wave of corruption-related investigations and the removal of senior leaders in 2023, according to the report, using the People’s Liberation Army ( PLA ) as an acronym. &nbsp,

According to US authorities, including the brain of the Central Intelligence Agency, Chinese President Xi Jinping had instructed his military to be prepared to invade Taiwan by 2027.

China’s standard 2027 reform targets include accelerating the inclusion of intellect, mechanisation and other tools while boosting the speed of reform in military theories, personnel, weapons and equipment, the Pentagon said.
