China’s Xi announces steps to support ‘Global South’ at G20 summit

At a gathering of the Group of 20 ( G20 ) leaders in Rio de Janeiro on Monday ( Nov. 18 ), Chinese President Xi Jinping made a number of announcements to support the” Global South.”

In his first address at the G20 Summit, Xi declared that China would support global growth through eight activities, including the establishment of his name “high quality” Belt and Road Initiative, which directs significant Chinese opportunities to infrastructure projects in developing nations.

He also made it known that China, Brazil, South Africa, and the African Union were launching an” Open Science International Cooperation Initiative” to help the global South receive scientific and technological advancements.

According to state media company Xinhua, China supports the G20 in carrying out effective participation for the benefit of the Global South, adding that China’s exports from developing nations are projected to major US$ 8 trillion by 2030.

” China has always been a part of the’ Global South’, a trusted and long-term lover of developing nations, and an advocate and person in support of international development”, Xi added.

China “wishes to be a one person rather than to grow 100 flowers” and to collaborate with numerous developing nations to advance technology.
