Ukraine’s Zelenskyy says China’s Xi told him he will not sell any weapons to Russia

During a phone call between the two men on Thursday ( Jun 13 ), Chinese President Xi Jinping informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that China would not sell weapons to Russia.

At the G7 summit in Italy, Zelenskyy and US President Joe Biden held a combined press conference. He did not specify the time of the discussion with Xi.

” I had a firm conversation with ( the ) leader of China. He stated that he would not give Russia any weapons. We’ll see if he’s ( a ) respectable person he will not, because he gave me ( his ) word”, Zelenskyy said in English.

As Zelenskyy was about to end his speech, Biden chimed in, saying,” In fact, China is helping Russia by providing arms but the ability to make those weapons and the technologies available to do so.”

Zelenskyy claimed that if Kyiv and China shared the same viewpoints on peace, they may engage in dialogue, and that Beijing may develop a different “peace formula” if they did.

The Russian president has praised his “peace formula,” or “vision for peace in Ukraine.”

In an effort to bolster Ukraine’s harmony, Switzerland is scheduled to host global delegations from dozens of nations and organizations this weekends at a summit.

The only other quite visit since Russia’s full-scale war to be made between Zelenskyy and Xi was in April 2023. It was the last one to be made publicly.
