UN accuses Israel of denying Gaza aid access as famine takes hold

Israel is retaliating against Hamas following an attack on October 7 that Israel claims killed more than 1,200 individuals and held more than 250 hostages. Since then, according to Gaza health officials, Israel has killed more than 34,600 persons in Gaza.

After Israeli military and settlers withdrew from Gaza in 2005, Hamas gained control of the region, but the UN also considers the area to be Israeli-occupied territory.
