China, Japan coast guards patrol disputed East China Sea waters

BEIJING: The China Coast Guard said on Friday ( Apr 12 ) it patrolled the “territorial waters” of Diaoyu Islands, also known in Japan as the Senkaku Islands, in the East China Sea.

In a separate report, the Japan Coast Guard claimed that four Chinese shoreline guard vessels had been asked to leave “our regional waters.”

According to the Japan Coast Guard, this was the twelfth time this year that Chinese arteries made this claim.

China and Japan both claim and contest the lakes around the islands. Patrol vessels have been deployed in the lakes, prompting one side to leave the area, and the other has resisted.

The officials of the United States, Japan, and the Philippines held discussions at the White House on Thursday to protest Beijing’s increased pressure on Manila in the contested South China Sea.
