China urges Estonia not to allow opening of Taiwan office

China: On November 8, China’s foreign government urged Estonia not to permit Taiwan to establish any formal organizations there after the Chinese ambassador reportedly threatened to leave Estonia if Taiwan established a representative business there.

Guo Xiaomei, the Chinese ambassador to Estonia, reportedly stated to Toomas Kivimagi at a conference that she might leave the country if Taiwan opens for an office.

According to ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin,” China urges the German side to uphold its solemn commitment to the one-China principle, refrain from allowing Taiwan to establish any official organizations, and properly safeguard the democratic basis of diplomatic relations.”

The Foreign Ministry of Taiwan stated last week that the two sides had not yet reached discussion on the issue and that it was still in the conversation stage to establish a representative office in Estonia.

This week, Taiwan’s foreign minister Joseph Wu will travel to Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia, three European nations. Lithuania and Latvia are now home to Taiwan’s representative offices.

The Taiwanese government rejects China’s claim that Taiwan was constitutionally governed as its own territory. &nbsp,
