China and Europe should ‘unite and cooperate’, Premier Li says at G20 summit

BEIJING: On the outside of the annual G20 summit in New Delhi, Premier Li Qiang advised the European Union chief that China and Europe may” unite and co-operate” against global risks.

Li’s visit came as the Western union has become more cautious about taking on China, which it has referred to as a” systemic rival ,” companion, and rival since 2019.

Li told EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Saturday( Sept 9 ), according to a statement from the Chinese foreign ministry,” Risk prevention does not preclude cooperation, and interdependence should not be equated with insecurity.”

According to a statement released by the government on Sunday, Li urged the bloc to foster non-discriminatory conditions for Chinese businesses and added that China was ready to improve dialogue and cooperation in fields like fresh energy and natural finance.

It cited Li as saying,” China and the EU should more unite and engage, and use the balance of China-EU relations as a wall against the uncertainty of the world situation.”

Xi Jinping, the president of China, did not go to the tip.

The EU adopted a” derisking” approach in June to reduce its reliance on the Eastern superpower, which has the second-largest economy in the world.
