Beijing slams NATO over ‘completely futile’ China warning

BEIJING: Beijing on Thursday night (Jun 30) criticized NATO over a “completely futile” warning in which the group said initially in a guiding formula that China’s power challenges the military alliance.

The response came after NATO’s tactical concept, published at a summit in Madrid, said Beijing’s stated ambitions and coercive policies challenged its interests, security plus values.

NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANIZATION also said that China’s closer ties in order to Russia went against Western interests, drawing a fiery reaction from Beijing.

“NATO’s so-called new strategic concept record disregards facts, confuses black and white… (and) smears China’s foreign plan, ” foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a regular briefing Thursday.

He added that China and taiwan “firmly opposes it”.

“We wish to warn NATO that hyping up the alleged China threat is totally futile, ” Zhao told reporters.

Leading NATO strength the United States has forced for the alliance to pay greater attention to China, despite reluctance through some allies to change attention away from the focus on Europe.

Beijing has declined to condemn its ally Russia within the invasion of Ukraine, and the two countries have drawn closer in the political, industry and military spheres as part of a “no limits” relationship.

This month, Chinese language President Xi Jinping assured his version Vladimir Putin of China’s support on Russian “sovereignty and security”.

Beijing has also been accused associated with providing diplomatic protect for Russia simply by criticising Western sanctions and arms sales to Kyiv.

In a sign associated with growing concern about China, leaders of regional partners Japan, South Korea, Quotes and New Zealand also attended a NATO summit the first time.
