China fully respects Denmark’s sovereignty on Greenland, foreign minister says

Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged the European country to reciprocate over China’s own sovereignty concerns on Monday ( May 19 ), telling his Danish counterpart that China fully respects Denmark’s sovereignty and territorial integrity on the Greenland issue.

In recent months, Danish province should be taken over by Washington, according to US President Donald Trump.

Beijing hopes Denmark may continue to support China’s right to defend its position on issues involving its sovereignty and territorial integrity, Wang told Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen on Monday in a government speech.

After Beijing had previously criticized Denmark for hosting previous Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen, who met with Danish politicians and delivered a conversation at a Copenhagen politics mountain, the meeting took place.

Taiwan, which is democratically governed, is China’s personal territory. Beijing’s say to independence is rejected by the Taiwanese government.

China and Denmark’s casual ties with Taiwan threaten their friendships, which reached a low in 2009 when the Dalai Lama traveled to Copenhagen.

However, after Denmark accepted China’s sell for two penguins as part of its so-called “panda diplomacy,” things started to get better.

Both nations ‘ assistance places a strong emphasis on green alternatives, with Denmark’s knowledge of wind power and economic issues matching China’s desire for the natural transition.

China is eager to expand its economic and trade ties with Denmark, as well as cooperate in scientific research and the natural business, Wang told Rasmussen.

He said that the two parties have a common understanding about protecting multilateralism and defending free business, and that China is willing to bolster speech and assistance with the EU.
