Uzbek woman caught with cocaine in Phuket

PHUKET: A 41-year-old Uzbek woman has been arrested with over two kilogrammes of cocaine seized at Phuket airport.

Police from Sakhu station, customs officers and immigration police arrested Shoira Rakmonova on the first floor of the airport’s customs checkpoint on Friday, after they found eight plastic bags containing 2.23kg in total hidden in a her laptop bag. Three mobile phones were also found inside, said Pol Col Kanchawit Phorprasit, chief of Sakhu police.

According to police, the woman travelled alone from Doha, Qatar, on a direct flight to Phuket. Customs officers conducted a search following information that she was a suspicious person. 

After police found the illicit drug, they charged her with smuggling a Class 2 drug into the kingdom.

The suspect was handed over to Sakhu police for legal proceedings.
