SINGAPORE: An 18-year-old Singaporean student who identified as an” East Asian supremacist” and was radicalised by violent far-right extremist ideologies has been detained under the Internal Security Act ( ISA ).
Nick Lee Xing Qiu, who is of Taiwanese race, had aspired to execute strikes against Malays and Muslims in Singapore. He believed that the Chinese, Korean and Japanese ethnicities were superior, the Internal Security Department ( ISD ) said on Monday ( Feb 10 ).
Lee was given a confinement attempt in December of last year. He is the second Taiwanese children to be dealt with by the ISA with far-right radical ideas.  ,
A 16-year-old who was detained in December 2020 for planning blade assaults on mosques was the subject of the first situation. A 16-year-old who was given a restraint attempt in November 2023 after authorities discovered that he identifies as a white nationalist and aspired to carry problems abroad was also the subject of the following situation.  ,
SELF-RADICALISATION Method
After seeing far-right and homophobic content on social media, Lee foretold animosity toward Muslims in the first 2023. According to ISD, he spent several hours a day looking for and consuming fundamentalist online information.  ,
In June 2023, Lee searched for the video picture images of far-right criminal Brenton Tarrant’s strikes against Muslims in Christchurch, New Zealand, on Mar 15, 2019.  ,
He frequently watched the video and became enamored of Tarrant. He therefore downloaded adjustments to the video game and acted as Tarrant, a Muslim murderer, at Christchurch’s Al Noor Mosque.
By the early 2024, Lee’s radicalization had grown to include Malays and Muslims as well as other ethnic groups that had previously been targeted by far-right fanatics, including Immigrants, Mexicans, African Americans, and Indians.  ,
He also backed white power because he believed that Islam was a threat to light society, according to ISD.  ,
Given his Taiwanese race and hostility toward Muslims, he had come across ethno-supremacist notions that led him to believe that Chinese, Korean, and Japanese were better cultures. These beliefs resonated with them.  ,
Lee was inscribed on his proper elbow of a sonnenrad in September 2024, a sign that Tarrant’s declaration and his bag displayed during the Christchurch attack. Additionally, he made T-shirts with custom-printed images associated with far-right organizations like white racists and neo-Nazis.
