NAKHON PHANOM: A senior student at a school in Si Songkhram district is facing legal action for assaulting a much younger student whose takraw ball hit his expensive motorcycle.

The younger boy is a 13-year-old Mathayom 1 (Grade 7) student known as Tong at Saharatrangsan School.

On Friday he was playing with a takraw ball which accidentally hit a motorcycle parked nearby. The motorcycle belonged to Kengcharoen Thamhon, 19, a Mathayom 6 (Grade 12)  student at the same school.

Kengcharoen’s motorcycle cost about 200,000 baht and he immediately became very angry, worried his beloved motorbike may have been damaged.

He kicked and punched the younger boy until he fell unconscious. The boy later required six stiches to his lip.

Ladda Kanthacharoensak, 38, Tong’s mother, filed a complaint with Si Songkhram police against  Kengcharoen, seeking both civil and criminal action against him. She also demanded 50,000 baht in damages.

Sanan Metula, the school director, arranged for the two sides to negotiate a settlement. Kengcharoen’s grandmother, Homhual Samornrit, 63, offered to pay 25,000 baht, but Mrs Ladda insisted on 50,000 baht.

Pol Col Prasert Thamchai, the Si Songkhram police chief, said that since a complaint had been filed against Kengcharoen, he had assigned investigators to compile a case and charge him with assault under Section 295 of the Criminal Code. The younger boy, who is a juvenile, would be questioned by prosecutors.

The criminal case should be ready for filing with the court in a day or two, he said

As for the demand for compensation, the damaged party must wait for the court ruling on the criminal case before filing a civil suit for damages, Pol Col Prasert said.
