Search ongoing for worker who fell into sea after part of concrete pier at Keppel Shipyard in Tuas collapses

SINGAPORE: A search is continuing for a missing 38-year-old worker after component of a concrete boat dock at Keppel Shipyard in Tuas flattened on Monday (Aug 22).

At about 10. 40am on Monday, part of the concrete pier that a crane was sitting on collapsed, causing the crane to topple onto a vessel that was berthed next to the pier, a Ministry of Manpower (MOM) spokesperson said on Tuesday.

The particular Bangladeshi worker, who was on the pier, dropped into the sea and is missing, the MOM spokesperson added. The lacking worker is employed simply by Kumarann Marine.

Four other employees – two Bangladeshis, one Chinese national and one Singaporean – suffered minor injuries and are in stable condition, said the particular spokesperson.  

The incident from 51 Pioneer Field 1 of Keppel Shipyard caused the particular crane to be partly submerged under drinking water.

“MOM can be investigating the cause of the particular accident, and has stopped all works at the pier, ” the particular spokesperson added.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said two people had been taken to National University Hospital.
