Public warning system to be sounded islandwide on Sep 15

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Municipal Defence Force (SCDF) will be sounding the particular “Important Message” transmission on Thursday (Sep 15).  

The  minute -long sounding exercise, which is played through the islandwide public warning system (PWS) sirens, will take place at 6. 20pm.  

The signal will also sound for many smartphones that have the SGSecure Mobile App downloaded and are not really on silent or even vibration mode.  

The signal will stop once the message is acknowledged or cease after twenty seconds. This will be then a brief text over the sounding of the general public warning system.  

Do not be concerned by the minute -long sounding workout, ” said SCDF in a news release on Tuesday.  

“When you hear the particular ‘Important Message’ transmission, tune in immediately to any local radio place or free-to-air Mediacorp TV channel for any brief message to the PWS. If you skip the message, visit go. gov. sg/pws to know more about the PWS signals. ”

Every year, SCDF sounds the Important Message signal with the public warning system sirens on February 15 and Sep 15 at six. 20pm.

The particular sounding and transmit message are part of SCDF’s efforts to familiarise people with the general public warning system indicators and to raise consciousness on how the public need to react upon listening to the signal.  

According to the SCDF site, t he or she public warning strategy is a network of sirens placed on strategic points through the island. It acts to warn the public of imminent dangers that could endanger lives and property.  

The Important Message signal is sounded in order to alert the population for an important broadcast on radio.

The Alarm Signal indicates when an air raid or shelling can be imminent while the Almost all Clear Signal is sounded when a risk is over.
