Laos dam review urged

According to Digital Economy and Society ( DES ) Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong, the government has asked Laos to reconsider the proposed Sanakham Dam’s location in light of potential effects on the local community.

Mr. Prasert, who likewise serves as the Mekong Committee president and vice president, said the bridge, which is scheduled to be constructed on the Mekong River two kilometers from the Thai border, may have a significant effect on Thailand.

The state has sent Laos documents outlining concerns, especially the contact of the reservoir to Thailand. It requests Laos to evaluate its location in order to reduce cross-border effect.

He claimed that the government is looking into five crucial areas, including the effects of the Mekong large catfish’s effect on riverbanks and ecology, particularly the impact on water levels. Mr. Prasert stated that he would discuss the impact of the proposed dialogue with Chinese officials.
