Immunocompromised, chronically ill children under five to get Covid-19 vaccine

PUTRAJAYA: Children under five will be getting the Covid-19 vaccine, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

The technical working group had decided that it would first end up being offered to children who were immunocompromised and with chronic illness.

“Once we have a decision within the procurement, we will notify, ” said the Health Minister, adding that it would be free.

“Likely because the figures won’t be therefore big, for kids under five, we will give it through the Health Ministry’s paediatrics section and pass this to private hospitals, ” Khairy said in a press conference after the Malaysia Book associated with Records award wedding ceremony and launch of the Record Breaking Covid-19 Vaccination: Public-Private Partnership report here upon Tuesday (Sept 13).

He added that the decision to own vaccine to kids under five along with underlying health conditions is at line with data from other countries which had already implemented the vaccination drive with this group.

Khairy also said that discussions had started with vaccine manufacturers.

Earlier, he declared that the Health Ministry can also be planning to purchase up-to-date Covid-19 vaccines that may fight new variations.

These vaccines would be offered to high-risk groups only, he said.

Over the current vaccine amass, Khairy said it currently stood in excess of about four mil vaccines, with some expiring at the end of this year plus some will be able to be carried forward.
