First shipment of chicken products from Indonesia to Singapore to depart on Wednesday: Agriculture ministry

Mdm Mela Sari mentioned on Tuesday that two of these businesses are still in speaks with their Singaporean alternatives.  

“The negotiations are B2B (business-to-business) in nature. How soon the other two (companies) can start sending their particular chicken products will depend on talks between businesses in both countries, ” she added.

The ministry’s movie director of animal product processing and advertising said that there are 12 other Indonesian businesses which are currently searching for permission to export chicken products in order to Singapore. All programs have been submitted to the SFA.

The SFA has said that individual establishments and farms needed to be evaluated and approved, with detailed documentary evaluations plus on-site audits just for verification, before they may be given permission to export food to Singapore.

Singapore imported 214, four hundred tonnes of chicken meat last year, in regards to a third were from Malaysia.

Malaysia has put in place an export ban as high as 3. 6 million chickens a month, following supply and pricing issues domestically, which includes chicken traders selling whole chickens over the price ceiling to pay their costs.

Following the export prohibit, Singapore announced that it is going to source chickens from other places, including Philippines and Thailand.

The SFA announced on Jun 30 that it has added Philippines as a new source for the import of chilled, frozen and processed chicken .

According to a good estimate by the Indonesian Ministry of Farming last month, Indonesia’s chicken meat production throughout in 2022 is expected to reach 5. 9 million tonnes.

The domestic demand regarding chicken meat is usually estimated to be five. 3 million tonnes this year. This means that there is an average monthly excess of around fifty, 000 tonnes.
