On Thursday evening, a blaze broke out at the Pattaya Floating Market in the Bang Lamung neighborhood, demolishing an area of the tourist destination that was home to numerous regional and standard goods.

More than 200 firefighters were sent to put out the fire, which began at around 8 p.m., in 27 fire vehicles from Pattaya city and nearby native governments.

Due to the majority of stores being built with timber and thatched roof, the fire spread rapidly. One after another, oil cylinder explosions could be heard.

CNA Explains: Why is Singapore at risk of a surge in dengue cases?

What mosquito prevention strategies are currently in place, and are they effective?

Project Wolbachia – Singapore’s initial niche discharge was launched by NEA in 2016. The project’s goal is to free adult Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that transmit the Wolbachia microbes so that they can mat in an urban setting with the female species. Their resulting eggs don’t nest, and no young are born. & nbsp,

According to NEA, continued discharges result in a reduction in the industrial Aedes anegypti malaria community and consequently less mosquito transfer. & nbsp,

Baey Yam Keng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and the Environment, stated in May of this year that the project has benefited more than one million people, covering about 30 % of all HDB blocks and 9 % of Singapore’s landed residential areas.

More than 90 % of Aedes aegypti mosquito populations were reduced in Tampines, Yishun, Choa Chu Kang, and Bukit Batok, according to Mr. Baey. & nbsp,

The Gravitrap, created by the Environmental Health Institute( EHI ) of the NEA, is intended to draw and capture female Aedes mosquitoes looking for egg-laying sites.

These containers may catch female mosquitoes as they try to lay their eggs and stop them from biting other people. Additionally, the Gravitrap traps and stops any mosquito from emerging from eggs that are laid in the pit.

Nearly 70,000 Gravitraps have reportedly been deployed at landed and common housing estates all over Singapore, according to NEA.

According to NEA, gravitraps themselves do not increase the pest population already present in the area but rather help to lower the number of mosquitoes emerging from another breeding grounds.

Additionally, by instructing officers to look for and destroy breeding habitats at sites with higher Aedes mosquito populations, NEA is able to” prioritize its assets” by knowing which Gravitraps are capturing these mosquitoes, the organization added.

Members of the public may remove stagnant water and follow the” S-A-W” methods, which include spraying insecticide in dark areas around the house, applying insect repellent frequently, and wearing long-sleeve heads and long pants, to prevent an increase in dengue cases, according to the NEA.

In order to prevent spreading the dengue virus to mosquitoes and other people in their neighborhoods, those who have been diagnosed with or are suspected of having the disease are also advised to avoid additional mosquito bites by using mosquito repellent and performing the other S-A-W activities.

According to NEA, all locals must act right away to reduce the number of Aedes mosquitoes and stop the spread of illness. They can accomplish this by regularly performing the” B-L-O-C-K” actions, which include breaking up hardened soil, lifting and empty flower pot sheets, flipping over pails and wiping their edges, changing water in pots, maintaining clean roof gutters.

Dr. Dickens of the NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health remarked that these techniques are” a party work” in terms of their efficacy. & nbsp,

It only takes one breeding habitat for plenty of mosquito to look, she said, adding that if everyone is consistent in their S-A-W and B-L-O-C-K actions, mosquito populations may struggle to burn and reproduce, and the risk of dengue outbreaks will decrease.

It is crucial for B-L-O-C-K to occur frequently, not just when an eruption begins. S-A-W can thoroughly prevent the spread of the virus to the other flies and the people in the wider neighborhood in people who have been diagnosed with dengue or who are suspected of having it, Dr. Dickens continued. & nbsp,

The expert on infectious diseases added that there is” no one-stop answer” for dengue and emphasized methods like Wolbachia technology, breeding habitat removal, and personal safety. & nbsp,

Dr. Dickens continued,” The secret is to constantly become proactive rather than being careful when an eruption is already here. & nbsp,

Suspect in highway police killing dies in gunfight
Thananchai Manmak, suspected of killing a bridge police officer and wounding another at a party in Nakhon Pathom on Wednesday night, died in an exchange of fire with officers hunting for him in Tha Rua area, Kanchanaburi, early on Friday. ( Photo: Piyarach Chongcharoen )

Thananchai Manmak, who was wanted under a jury subpoena for the shooting that killed a bridge police officer and injuring another at a gathering in Nakhon Pathom on Wednesday evening, was fatally shot in an exchange of gunfire with officers in Tha Rua area, Kanchanaburi state, early Friday morning.

Police from the Crime Suppression Division( CSD ) and Provincial Police Region 9 were deployed in a manhunt for Thananchai, alias Nong Thapha, who allegedly opened fire that killed Pol Maj Siwakorn Saibua, chief of Highway Police Station 1 of the Highway Police Sub – division 2, and seriously injured Pol Lt Col Wasin Panpee, deputy commander of the Highway Police Sub – division 2, at a dinner hosted by Praween Chankhlai, alias Kamnan Nok, in tambon Thakong in Muang district, Nakhon Pathom province, on Wednesday night.

Some other bridge police officers were likewise present at the party.

The 45 – time – old assailant was apparently working for Mr Praween, commonly known as Kamnan Nok, 35.

Following the incident, the Nakhon Pathom Court issued two arrest warrants for Thananchai and Mr Praween. Thananchai was charged with murder, attempted murder and unlawful possession of a piece and weapons. Mr Praween was charged with ordering Thananchai to commit the crime.

The situation has been transferred to the CSD for inspection.

Mr Praween surrendered to authorities on Thursday night and denied the charge, saying Thananchai had acted separately without his presence. Thananchai, yet, managed to evade capture.

On Friday at 5.45am, a police investigation team from the Central Investigation Bureau ( CIB ) laid siege to an abandoned mess hall behind Wat Phra Thaen Dong Rang in Tha Rua, where Thananchai was hiding.

When told to give up, Thananchai opened fire in an attempt to leave, leading to a small shootout. After the gunshots ceased, Thananchai was found dead, wearing a pair of jeans and a black T – sweater, then a four – entry Ford Ranger delivery that he had used in his flight.

On Thursday, Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat Pankaew, acting chief of the Highway Police Division, ordered an investigation of the bridge police officials who attended the party hosted by Kamnan Nok, which resulted in the horrible affair.

The research commission, chaired by Pol Col Nathapong Pitabutr, deputy chief of the Highway Police Division, has been tasked with determining the cause of the firing and why the other police officers at the group did not intervene to stop it.

Police cordon off the shooting scene, where Thananchai Manmak, alias Nong Thapha, a suspect wanted for the fatal shooting of a highway police officer in Nakhon Pathom & nbsp, on Wednesday night, is killed in an exchange of fire with police in Tha Rua district, Kanchanaburi province, early Friday morning. Chadchart fumes as AC project nixed

claims that schoolchildren need aircon entry

A proposal to install air conditioners in 1, 743 rooms across 429 schools run by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration( BMA ) was rejected on Thursday.

The BMA’s total 90 billion baht costs budget bill, which will go into effect on October 1st for the fiscal year 2024, includes the demand for a 219 million baht budget.

According to Bangkok government Chadchart Sittipunt, the task to install air conditioning is intended to shield preschoolers between the ages of one and six from the dangerous ultra-fine PM2.5 dust waste in the area.

The government cited research from the World Health Organization that identified a specific threat to children’s health posed by the PM2.5 cloud.

The BMC debated whether it was good to keep kids in such a setting for the majority of the school day before universally rejecting the project to install air conditioning in schools.

Installing air conditioners in outdated buildings at BMA-run schools, some of which need maintenance and repair work, likewise caused the government health concerns.

The government also feared that the BMA may end up with a significant financial burden as it would have to pay for the higher energy costs associated with running air conditioners in the schools.

The BMC said it would have been inclined to approve the venture had the BMA proposed the air-con installation along with a plan to install solar-cell panels at the colleges to mitigate the energy costs. According to Churachit Phongsingwitthaya, a Pheu Thai Party council for the Lat Krabang region, the BMA had recently tested the so-called dust-free school project at 32 colleges, which did not need an air conditioning system.

He questioned why the BMA didn’t carry out the pilot project, in which schools discovered ways to lessen the effects of PM2.5 dirt by, for instance, adding more natural space, installing air purifiers, and covering structures with dust-insulating materials.

Before re-submitting the air conditioning job to the BMC for consideration, Mr. Chadchart concurred that it would include the solar panel.

These kids should all be able to study in an air-conditioned space, regardless of their financial situation.

Yet I, the city governor, also require an air-conditioned workspace after being subjected to a significant amount of dust pollution in the area. Why don’t kids be able to get this kind of safety? ” Mr. Chadchart enquired.

Official's 32 trips abroad queried

Ms. Supamas, who is scheduled to arrive at the department on September 15, stated that she will handle the situation simply but has not yet heard Dr. Sirirurg’s account of what happened.

Mr. Wiroj claimed to have gathered data on the MHESI continuous secretary’s 32 international trips over the previous 18 months on his Facebook account. Some trips’ costs were estimated to be 5 million ringgit.

In order to maintain accountability and transparency in public spending, he asked Ms. Supamas to launch an investigation to find out if these visits had taken area, what they were for, and whether they had been necessary for supervisory work.

'Accidentally': Johor fishermen say engine failure, strong currents among reasons why they end up in Singapore's waters

ROOM FOR NEGOTIATION OVER THE Frontier OF MARITIME?

One Johor lawmaker suggests that negotiating for the redrawing of the maritime boundary between Malaysia and Singapore in the Joheor Strait to give the anglers more room is a potential solution to save the lives of these fishermen.

Pandak Ahmad, the state assembly for Kota Iskandar, announced to the internet that he would be tabling a motion to remap the Johor Strait maritime boundary between Malaysia and Singapore on Monday( Sep 11 ).

However, RSIS ‘ Dr. Koh stated to CNA that he is” somewhat sceptical” about the proposal, noting that Johor’s ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and the Malaysian federal government have had a” thorn in the relationship” over maritime disputes like the Pedra Branca issue. & nbsp,

The federal government would need to address the marine limit issue brought up by the Johor legislator. Putrajaya will now be responsible for starting the conversation with Singapore, according to Dr. Koh. & nbsp,

Although it is doubtful that Singapore may consider moving its maritime border because it involves regional sovereignty, he said there might be room for negotiation after meetings were held in 2019 to discuss the delineation of maritime boundaries after an earlier dispute.

In October 2018, Singapore voiced opposition to Malaysia’s unilateral expansion of the Johor Bahru Port Limits off Tanjung Piai, which crossed the port limits off Tuas & nbsp.

It claimed that as a result of the action, Malaysian authorities ships repeatedly entered Singapore’s waters, prompting the Republic to extend its own dock restrictions in retaliation, which were still in its regional waters.

Later, both parties consented to renounce their conflicting port claims, return to their previous boundaries, and not authorize or halt any business activity in the region. They also agreed not to anchor any government vessels it.

Additionally, a committee was established to investigate the administrative and legal complexities surrounding the maritime dispute in order to lay the groundwork for negotiations.

Given the ongoing meetings, Dr. Koh stated:” At first glance, this( change in maritime boundary ) doesn’t seem to be a plausible choice; it, after all, concerns independence and, of course, an issue of process.”

However, I would contend that this possibility isn’t completely improbable, particularly given that the Anwar state is probably seen as more approachable.

In the meantime, Dr. Serina pointed out that fishing in the Straits of Johor region is actually becoming more and more obvious as the need for financial redevelopment is likely to outweigh the local villagers’ means of subsistence. & nbsp,

She acknowledged that there is a bright side to these improvements because they will give local youth employment opportunities. & nbsp,

Sailors are in danger, she claimed. Unfortunately, we are unable to maintain our lakes as they were in the 1980s. The entire area is intended for growth and business. It is beyond our comprehension. “& nbsp,

Mr. Nasir, a Kampung Pendas man, carried his field of six prawns and sighed as he returned from the water and tied his ship to the port. & nbsp,

Mr. Nasir said,” It was a disappointing day out today, but maybe tomorrow will be better ,” as he prayed for the catch the following day. & nbsp,

I want to get a fisherman long, so I hope things will get better.” Changing work is not an option ,” he continued. & nbsp,

'Protection for myself': Preschool teachers say mandatory CCTVs help prevent misunderstandings

For instance, if a child is in the principal’s blind area or when their back is turned, they could get hurt.

A former school teacher who went by the name Cynthia said,” When you try to find out what happened,( the kids involved perhaps ) tell different tales.”

She continued,” I also feel like I want to know the truth ,” adding that teachers may alter the way the lesson is set up to avoid similar mishaps.

She recalled an event from a previous job where an infant tripped and fell on her shoulder, severely spraining it. Even though there were two or three professors in the classroom at the time, they were unaware of how fast it happened.

When the girl got home, her parents were curious as to what had happened because she had never yet complained of pain.

” The CCTV aids us in clarifying what happened.” Without that, the parents had become furious and ask,” Oh, are you trying to hide things?” she remarked.

Cynthia’s previous employer, which she left in April, did not include CCTV, but she has also taught at MindChamps and KiddiWinkie, both of which have cameras set up.

She claimed that when they first heard about CCTV at school, her employees who were not accustomed to it were shocked by the concept.

Additionally, changes would need to be made because the school was doubled up as a changing room and CCTVs are never permitted in the class.

Sutin Klungsang, the defense minister, is optimistic that the new administration will be able to work out a new agreement with China and Germany regarding the website that will power Thailand’s upcoming underwater.

When asked about the possibility of the state negotiating with Berlin for a European website to be installed in the China-made submarine, as originally required by the Royal Thai Navy, Mr. Sutin responded,” A gain – gain for all three sides.”

The S26T Yuan-class torpedo was actually scheduled to arrive in Thailand this month, but the crisis has caused it to be delivered in April of next year instead.

After Germany refused to sell its MTU 396 diesel engine to China because it is classified as a military-defense item, China Shipbuilding & amp, Offshore International Co ( CSOC ), which is contracted to build the submarine in accordance with the G2G agreement, offered the CHD620 engine.

Mr. Sutin responded,” Perhaps ,” when asked if the problem could be resolved at the UN General Assembly’s 78th session in New York. Yeah, I think Srettha Thavisin, the prime minister, now has a solution in mind.

Regarding Thailand’s position on the ongoing battle in neighboring Myanmar, the new defense secretary– the second civilian to hold the position who is not a prime minister — stated that he intends to form an advisory committee to consider solutions to the problem based on recommendations from officials at the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The best course of action for dealing with the problems in Myanmar will then be decided in writing, he said.

Mr. Sutin stated that he wants to support the military in working with scientists and engineers in a proper committee that will soon be established for this purpose in order to further build the nation’s defense industry.
