Ulu Pandan park connector fully reopens after Clementi landslide reconstruction works

Rapidly REOPENED

Implementing measures to reduce” slope failing” and flood risk was the first of three phases of restoration work. That quarter, it was finished. &nbsp,

Steel strip piling plays were carried out in the next step to stabilize the hill. In November 2022, this was finished. &nbsp,

The final phase of the project had begun, according to HDB in an update released in December 2022, which involved completely reconstructing the waterway, reinstating the damaged portion of the park connector, and reconstructing the slope and downtown structures within the development.

After HDB removed the soil from the affected section of the Sungei Ulu Pandan canal and restored the canal to its original depth and capacity, the Ulu Pandan ( North Bank ) park connector reopened in March 2023. &nbsp,

Since next, HDB has stated that it has worked on” carefully strengthening various parts of the hill” as well as reworking and reconstructing the hill within the Clementi NorthArc growth. &nbsp,

Additionally, it repaired the Ulu Pandan ( South Bank ) park connector’s damaged section between Commonwealth Avenue West and Clementi Avenue 6. &nbsp,

These included steps to further stabilize and strengthen the hill and improve the layout of the downtown facilities for increased safety.

More soil-retaining buildings and anchors, for as long piles and rebars, were added to the hill to increase it. More aircraft grout mounds were also injected beneath. &nbsp,

In addition to expanding hill strengthening steps to a wider bend, HDB also stated that it took the opportunity to examine the layout of the corridor facilities planned in the area for an “added cache of health.” &nbsp,

Some ladders and staircases, for instance, were repositioned to disperse the load more equally across the hill. &nbsp,

Following this, the remaining downtown facilities in the area were constructed. This included the multi- purpose court, hardcourt, downtown pavilion, drop- of porch, viewing deck and a protected linkway which connects the personal blocks to the corridor pavilion.

Hikikomori: Why Korean parents are choosing to be shut in a cell

By Hyojung KimBBC Korean

Korea Youth Foundation Recently, some South Korean parents have voluntarily entered these lonely rooms for their childrenKorea Youth Foundation

A lock feeding opening serves as the only connection between the little rooms at the Happiness Factory and the outside world.

These tissues, which are no bigger than a store shelf, have no phones or laptops within, and their residents just have plain walls for privacy.

Residents of the prison in South Korea may wear orange prison clothing, but they are not prisoners. They have been there for a” confinement experience.”

Most of the people present have a baby who has completely withdrawn from society and have experienced how it feels to be isolated from the outside world.

Lone- confinement cell

Children of lonely young individuals like these residents’ are referred to as depression, a term used in Japan in the 1990s to describe extreme social withdrawal among adolescents and young adults.

Next time, a North Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare study of 15, 000 19- to 34- yr- olds found more than 5 % of respondents were isolating themselves.

If this is delegate of the wider community of South Korea, it may mean about 540, 000 people were in the same position.

Kids have been taking part in a 13-week parental training program that is being run by non-governmental organizations like the Korea Youth Foundation and the Blue Whale Recovery Centre since April.

The purpose of the program is to teach individuals how to speak with their kids more effectively.

The three-day program includes a stay in a hospital in Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon Province, where participants spend day in a place that resembles a solitary-contained body.

The idea is that parental separation will help them understand their kids more.

Emotional confinement

Jin Young- hae’s child has been isolating himself in his home for the past three decades.

But since wasting time in captivity herself, Ms Jin ( never her real name ) understands her 24- yr- old’s “emotional jail” a little better.

” I’ve been wondering what I did bad… it’s painful to think about”, the 50- yr- old says.

” But as I started reflecting, I gained some clarity”.

Reluctance to speak

Her brother has always been talented, Ms Jin says, and she and his parents had high expectations of him.

But he frequently ill, struggled to maintain friends, and finally developed an eating disorder, which made schoolwork challenging for him.

When her son began attending college, he seemed to be doing effectively for a phrase- but one time, he entirely withdrew.

Seeing him locked in his place, neglecting personal health and dishes, broke her heart.

But her child is reluctant to talk to her about what is really bad despite the fact that he may have experienced stress, difficult relationships with family and friends, and disappointment at not being accepted into a prestigious school.

When Ms. Jin arrived at the Happiness Factory, she read notes left by other lone young people.

” Reading those notes made me realise,’ Ah, he’s protecting himself with silence because no- one understands him ‘”, she says.

For her 26-year-old son, who had been disconnected from communication with the outside world seven years ago, Park Han-sil ( not her real name ) came here.

He now rarely leaves his room after escaping home a few times.

Ms. Park took her son to a counselor and doctors, but his son refused to take the mental health medication he had been prescribed and became obsessed with video games.

Interpersonal relationships

Ms Park is still trying to reach her son, but she has started using the isolation program to help him understand his feelings.

” I’ve realised that it’s important to accept my child’s life without forcing him into a specific mould”, she says.

There are a number of factors that, according to research from the South Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare, cause young people to cut themselves off.

According to the ministry’s survey of 19- to 34- year- olds, the most common reasons are:

  • difficulties finding a job ( 24.1 % )
  • issues with interpersonal relationships ( 23.5 % )
  • family problems ( 12.4 % )
  • health issues ( 12.4 % )

South Korea’s government released a five-year plan to address this year, which has one of the highest suicide rates in the world.

Ministers made the announcement that people between the ages of 20 and 34 would receive state-funded mental health check-ups every two years.

In Japan, the first wave of young people isolating themselves, in the 1990s, has led to a demographic of middle- aged people dependent on their elderly parents.

Some older people have fallen into poverty and depression, and some of their adult children have been forced to do so by their only pensions.

Young people’s anxiety is amplified by Prof. Jeong Go-wooon’s sociology department at Kyung Hee University, especially in times of economic stagnation and low employment, according to Prof. Jeong Go-wooon from Kyung Hee University.

The notion that a child’s successes are a result of a parent’s care causes entire families to become isolated.

And many parents perceive their child’s struggles as a failure in upbringing, leading to a sense of guilt.

According to Prof. Jeong, “parents in Korea often express their love and feelings through real-world actions and roles rather than verbal expressions.”

A Confucian culture that emphasizes responsibility is typical of parents who help pay their children’s tuition through hard work.

This cultural emphasis on hard work may be a sign of South Korea’s explosive economic growth in the second half of the 21st century, when it emerged as one of the world’s largest economies.

However, according to the World Inequality Database, the country’s wealth inequality has worsened over the last three decades.

Korea Youth Foundation A woman sits on the floor reflectingKorea Youth Foundation

Kim Ok- ran, director of the Blue Whale Recovery Centre, claims that many parents also end up abusing those who are close to them because they believe that controlling young people is a “family problem.”

And some people ca n’t even talk to close relatives about their situation because they fear being judged.

They ca n’t bring the issue up in front, Ms. Kim says, which will make the parents as well be isolated.

” Often, they stop attending family gatherings during holidays”.

‘ Watching over ‘

The Happiness Factory’s clients are still eagerly awaiting the day when their children can resume a normal life.

Asked what she would say to her son if he came out of isolation, Ms Jin’s eyes fill with tears.

” You’ve been through so much”, she says, voice trembling.

” It was hard, was n’t it?

” I’ll be watching over you.”

T20 World Cup final: India’s thrilling win gives tournament its Hollywood ending

Cricket’s attempt to crack the United States got its Hollywood ending.

South Africa looked to have the T20 World Cup won before India surged back to take the title in one final twist.

Throughout the finale the plots of tournaments gone by flashed before our eyes.

For India it was the pain of defeat in the 50-over World Cup final eight months ago. That day a crowd of 90,000 arrived in Ahmedabad but Australia had read the wrong script.

Before that there had been the thrashing by England in Adelaide in 2022, defeat by New Zealand in the Manchester rain in 2019 and the loss to West Indies in 2016, again in front of an expectant home crowd, since their last World Cup win.

India had at least won one before. For South Africa the past was nothing but pain.

The rain in Sydney, Allan Donald’s run-out in 1999, getting the maths wrong in 2003 and Grant Elliott at Eden Park in 2015. It all resurfaced as part of the narrative.

Either way this was going to be an emotional finale, with inner demons to overcome.

As it was Virat Kohli charged in to embrace Hardik Pandya, while Rohit Sharma dropped to the floor in celebration.

This was Rohit’s redemption, captain of India here as he was during the disappointment last year.

Having had a leading role in The Agony of Ahmedabad, he has completed the sequel – The Kensington Coronation.

Kohli won the 50-over World Cup in 2011 as part the supporting cast. The then 22-year-old lifted the great Sachin Tendulkar onto his shoulders in the victory lap.

This time he was the leading man.

He struggled throughout this tournament, floundering as India progressed unbeaten through both group stages and the semi-finals, but was always lurking – like the baddie that has never been killed off.

Kohli hit three fours in his first four balls. After that he stood casually leaning against his bat, one arm on his hip. He was back.

His nonchalant flick onto the roof of the Sir Garfield Sobers pavilion will be a moment played over and over – as will the Suryakumar Yadav catch at the death and Jasprit Bumrah’s ferocious dismissal of Reeza Hendricks that was enough to send batters around the world hiding behind the sofa.

In the celebrations, Rohit and Kohli stood arm in arm, before announcing they will depart this stage, with this their last T20 international.

South Africa’s players, in contrast, became the characters your heart breaks for.

As the trophy presentation began, David Miller dropped to his haunches and stared at the ground, while tears flowed from the eyes of Heinrich Klaasen.

This was so nearly a story about Klaasen, who took the Proteas to the brink with 52 from 27 balls. Afterwards he was consoled on the outfield by his wife and young daughter.

Some will say the South Africa of previous years returned. Others can rightly argue India were just too good.

In Bumrah they have the world’s best bowler – a man who conceded only 18 runs from his 24 balls and will go down as one of the greats.

Kuldeep Yadav had a rare off day in the final, but the last two weeks have shown he is the game’s premier spinner, while Rohit’s 92 against Australia was one of the best knocks of the past four weeks.

When it came to the crunch, Rohit turned to his all-rounder Hardik, who delivered, while his Proteas opposite number Marco Jansen faltered.

The win was celebrated wildly in the stands by India fans who had flown into Barbados over the previous days.

Elsewhere others will roll their eyes.

The Rocky theme played at the Kensington Oval when England met USA last week but this was not an underdog story.

India, already the dominant force in the world game, progressed having been the only team to know in advance where their semi-final would be played.

It mattered not, England would have been resoundingly beaten at Lord’s as well as Guyana, but preventing such a scenario again is one of the minor tweaks that could improve the T20 World Cup.

Fixing the draws so India meet Pakistan and England face Australia may boost the coffers but it cheapens the product.

A week could have been taken off this tournament had it progressed straight from the first stage to quarter-finals when also moving solely to the Caribbean. Two group stages are never necessary.

The International Cricket Council should also thank Josh Hazlewood, because had Australia not been spooked by the reaction to his ill-judged words about manipulating their result against Scotland, a farcical situation may have occurred on the field.

But overall this has been the best of the three men’s World Cups, two T20 and one 50-over, that have been squeezed into the past 21 months.

Its biggest success was that it was the first to go truly global – upped to 20 teams.

There may have been one-sided fixtures in the group stage but the presence of Uganda, Papua New Guinea, the USA, Nepal and other smaller nations brought freshness and excitement.

Uganda’s 39 all out or Oman being beaten inside 17 overs by England were negatives but those were resoundingly outweighed by USA’s iconic victory over Pakistan, Papua New Guinea coming close to beating hosts West Indies and Brandon McMullen’s superb performances for Scotland.

It is for those moments as much as the finale that this tournament will be remembered.

In the end, though, it is India’s name that goes up in lights.

Cai’s view on the part of a group lawyer has likewise changed over the years. EC clarifies “offence” in Senate race

EC clarifies 'offence' in Senate race

According to the Election Commission (EC ), registering with the wrong professional organizations may not constitute an offense unless the candidate had the intent to deceive the public and the authorities during the Senate election.

The explanation was made by EC secretary- public Sawaeng Boonmee&nbsp, on Twitter on Saturday.

After the last, national-round of the Senate contest ended on Wednesday in Bangkok, the EC has been under extreme pressure. Allegations were abound of vote- hacking and illegal and matched election registrations, prompting the EC to support an inspection.

Mr. Sawaeng stated on Saturday that submitting an application for the Sor Wor 3 form, which may include false information about the candidate, is a distinct from the right to participate in a Senate election. He was citing a Supreme Court law.

The prospect faces criminal charges for supplying fake data, for instance, if the Sor Wor 3 type mentions the prospect farms salt as a profession only to have his name investigated after a after investigation revealed that he has lied about it.

According to the EC secretary-general, that does not prevent him from running for the Senate.

48, 226 individuals have been accused of providing false information about themselves in the registration document submitted to the EC, and the payment is looking through issues.

According to Mr. Sawaeng, the individuals will face charges for breaking the Senate election law if the issues have basis.

The EC was also responding to issues that some individuals had their votes diverted to certain other candidates who had been supported by social groups while being hired to run for the Senate.

However, Clean Politics group secretary-general Jaturun Boonbenjarat announced he would get an immediate order from the Supreme Administrative Court to block Tuesday’s scheduled news of the results of the Senate election.

If granted, the judge may continue to hear his complaint about alleged abnormalities in Senate elections.

He claimed that he was making social sense of his position as a candidate for the Senate election to prevent political parties from dominating the lower chamber.

” This ( Senate poll ) could well go down in history as another chapter in dirty politics”, he said.

Mr. Jaturun claimed that political parties had the power to influence the vote, and that some individuals had registered with organizations for which they were not qualified.

He urged the EC to investigate whether some individuals had relationships between some candidates and political events, and to find out why some of them had registered with the wrong professional organizations.

The EC may appear through the bank accounts, he said, because it might show strange financing deals during the Senate vote.

He claimed that some Senate candidates had too little professional experience and maturity to be effective lawmakers.

According to the proverb, the Senate’s capability to monitor legislation to keep accountability would be in serious danger if parties could wrap their little finger around it.

Old guard likely to dominate new Senate

Old guard likely to dominate new Senate
On Wednesday, the last round of the Senate election will take place at Impact land in Nonthaburi. ( Photo: Varuth Hirunyatheb)

According to political pundits, the new Senate wo n’t as much fresh air into Thai politics as many people might anticipate because the majority of the new chamber’s members are believed to have close ties to the old guard.

The fresh Senate, which was created by the 250 junta-appointed lawmakers whose term ended on May 10, has 200 members from 20 different industries. They were never formally chosen by the electorate.

New senators wo n’t be able to choose a PM alongside their predecessors, unlike they did when they did before. They may participate in the passage of laws and constitutional amendments.

They will also be in charge of ensuring that the executive branch is kept in check and that people of separate organizations, Constitutional Court judges, and the Attorney-General are appointed.

Observers noted that the decision Pheu Thai Party’s force to amend the constitution and to record der majeste on the list of crimes that would be pardoned under the new social asylum bill may also encounter obstacles from the fresh Senate.

Under the law, any plan to alter the charter requires the assistance of one- second of the innovative 200 lawmakers, or at least 67 senators. Without their assistance, contract modifications are not allowed.

Under the law, if the Senate disagrees with a expenses, it can transfer the bill to the House of Representatives for revision, but the Upper room has no power to reject it.

According to observers, the majority of the new Senate people are alleged to be affiliated with the BJT Party.

Anutin Charnvirakul, a president of the Bhumjaithai and interior minister, recently claimed that the lese majeste clause of the Criminal Code should be ignored.

Bhumjaithai before argued that a charter-drafting assembly should be established to create a new constitution, but he insisted that Chapters 1 and 2 should be left alone.

Thailand is described in Chapter 1 as a second, unbroken, democratic-governed nation with the King as head of state. Section 2 contains parts pertaining to the aristocratic privilege.

Connections with old protect

Stithorn Thananithichot, director of the Office of Innovation for Republic at King Prajadhipok’s Institute, told the Bangkok Post that more than half of the recently elected legislators are affiliated with Bhumjaithai.

” In other words, the ancient energy group also maintain impact over the fresh Senate”, he said.

He asserted that the newly created Senate would not be unlike the junta-appointed room.

” Those who continue to exert control over the majority of the new Senate have ties to the earlier Prayut Chan-o-cha state.

” They have been part of the old energy team for a long time, “he said, referring to Bhumjaithai.

Additionally, Mr. Stithorn noted that some individuals have connections to Pheu Thai, including former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat and ex-president Thaksin Shinawatra’s brother-in-law, who is commonly believed to be Pheu Thai’s de facto leader. But Mr Somchai did not find elected.

” Thaksin’s profit did not help,” the statement read. He does have lost his beauty,” Ms Stithorn said.

Additionally, Mr. Stithorn stated that the new Senate did support candidates for independent organizations and that the majority of Bhumjaithai-affiliated senators will play a significant role in supporting them.

Important role in contract change

As for any law amendment, the assistance of at least one- second, or 67 lawmakers is required.

It will depend on which section of the constitution is changed. There should be no concern if a contract change is acceptable]to Bhumjaithai].

” But if the Move Forward Party]MFP] seeks to amend]Chapters 1 and 2], those lawmakers are expected to stop them”, Mr Stithorn said.

He added that Bhumjaithai’s benefit from the current Senate election system is likely to be sustained as long as it continues to do so.

He said that it will be difficult for those who want to change the Senate vote method because they also need to update the constitution’s rules governing the Senate election.

” That will not be easy because most of the senators ]affiliated with Bhumjaithai] will stand in their way”, Mr Stithorn said.

After the unofficial results of the Senate election revealed that Buri Ram, the group’s social redoubt, has the largest share of seats, 14 candidates won in the last election on June 26 and BJT is at the center of attention, the focus turned to the illegal results of the election.

Other candidates viewed as having ties to Bhumjaithai even won in different regions, according to observers.

Stithorn: More than half linked to Bhumjaithai

Up to 130 senators-elect could have affiliations with the Bhumjaithai Party, according to Thanaporn Sriyakul, director of the Political and Public Policy Analysis Institute, and the rest with the Move Forward Party ( MFP ) and the Pheu Thai Party.

” This will then raise Bhumjaithai’s bargaining power in elections, and the group is expected to rise as a major social rival]to Pheu Thai and the MFP] in the future”, he said.

” The weather will now be blowing wherever those who want to sit in separate organizations are.” They are expected to mind to Buri Rum to get facilitates”, Mr Thanaporn said.

Given the majority of the new lawmakers ‘ associations with Bhumjaithai, he agreed that any efforts to alter Chapters 1 and 2 of the law and to pardon der guess offenders under the proposed asylum costs are unlikely to succeed.

According to Mr. Thanaporn,” Bhumajaithai is now perceived as an emerging liberal party and it is expected to gain support from other conventional establishment leaders.”

He claimed that he did not believe that fraud allegations may invalidate the Senate results. The Supreme Court will decide whether or not those complaints are justified by compelling information. The Senate election system will continue to be used, according to Mr. Thanaporn. ” Those who benefit from it will keep it in place”, he said.

Anutin, the president of Bhumajaithai, has denied playing a part in the Senate election despite says that many of the 200 senators-elect appeared to be affiliated with his party.

As the group leader, Mr. Anutin vehemently instructed party people not to tamper with the Senate race, and that events were not permitted to participate in the election.

Thanaporn: Sleep linked to MFP, Pheu Thai

Lack of independence

Former election inspector Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, a member who lost in the Senate race, claimed that some new lawmakers who have political connections are unable to sustain freedom. ” When it comes to amending the constitution, these legislators may get influenced by officials to whom they are linked”, he said.

Mr. Somchai added that some events that are currently in power may object to a proposal to amend the contract to create a charter-drafting assembly to create a new law if the new contract negatives those parties in upcoming elections.

He added that members of independent organizations will be members of political parties with whom the new senators will have a strong influence.

” Those parties do n’t want independent organisations to pose a threat to them”, he said.

Independent organisations include the National Anti- Corruption Commission, the Ombudsman, the State Audit Commission and the Election Commission. According to Mr. Somchai, it is unlikely that the parties that profit from the Senate election system will attempt to resurrect it with a new one.

Somchai: Hard to maintain independence

The Singaporean hotelier behind Lloyd’s Inn Kuala Lumpur, one of the city’s most stylish boutique hotels

However, the way to opening Lloyd’s Inn KL was not without its hurdles. The world COVID- 19 crisis, which even severely impacted global commerce demand and cash flows across the hospitality sector, caused significant delays to construction.

” It was an exceedingly difficult time, no uncertainty”, Chang, who is Singaporean, candidly admitted. Not just for this KL job, but also for our overall business operations, which were severely impacted by the subdued commerce climate, which was affecting the entire sector.

However, the determined co-founder persisted, once more working with the innovative team at Farm, the renowned design firm responsible for developing the impressive visual of the brand’s properties in Singapore and Bali.

CNA Explains: The rise and rise of Nvidia

SINGAPORE: In March, artificial intelligence device large Nvidia’s market capitalisation exceeded US$ 2 trillion. &nbsp,

According to reports, it took the business really 180 days to increase its value from US$ 1 trillion, which is less than half the amount of time it took tech titans like Apple and Microsoft.

Over 60 days later, Nvidia’s value climbed above US$ 3 trillion.

And on Jun 18, it became the world’s most valuable organization.

Shortly, however, a days- much sell- of took hold, and it ceded the No 1 position to Microsoft.

However, it’s been a heady, searing trip for Nvidia.

What’s Nvidia’s account?
