Bette Midler and Macy Gray address backlash over comments deemed transphobic
Midler was slammed just for tweeting, “WOMEN FROM THE WORLD! We are being stripped of our rights over our bodies, existence and even of our title! ”
“They don’t call us ‘women’ anymore; they call us ‘birthing people’ or ‘menstruators, and even ‘people with vaginas’!, ” her tweet reads. “Don’t let them erase you! Every single human on earth owes you! ”
On Tuesday, the “Hocus Pocus” superstar retweeted an opinion piece from the New York Times and wrote, ” PEOPLE OF THE WORLD! My tweet about women was a response to this particular fascinating and well written piece in the NYT on July third. ”
“There was no intention of anything exclusionary or transphobic in what I mentioned; it wasn’t about that, ” her twitter update concluded.
Gray produced some upset right after she appeared upon Fox Nation’s “Piers Morgan Uncensored” and commented, “I can say this and everyone’s gonna dislike me but like a woman, just because you decide to go change your (body) parts, doesn’t make you a lady, sorry. ”
On Tuesday, Gray said in a statement to “Entertainment Tonight” that will “I have nothing but love for the LGBTQ+ and transgender neighborhood and have been the supporter since day one. ”
“My statement upon Piers Morgan has been grossly misunderstood. I don’t hate anybody, ” she said. “I respect everybody’s right to feel comfortable in their bodies and live their own truth. ”
