Digital learning tools on the way

According to the Ministry of Education, in order to encourage similar opportunity in education, 600, 000 students across the country will receive the first batch of online learning devices in time for the second trimester of this year.

Surasak Phancharoenworakul, deputy minister of education, reported yesterday that the government had approved two significant programs under the same name.

One is called the” Digital Skill/Credit Portfolio: Empowering Education” job, aimed at developing students ‘ online capabilities and creating education portfolio with a budget of 4.21 billion ringgit.

The other is the” Anywhere Anytime” Learning Equipment Project ( Phase 2 ), which will provide learning devices for anywhere-anytime education from 2026 to 2031 with a budget of 29.76 billion baht.

First conversations on the two initiatives have been held with the Comptroller General’s Department. The government is targeting online higher-end products that remain well within the agency’s procurement criteria.

Because the project has a big budget, Mr. Surasak anticipates that the terms of reference will be finalized in two weeks, followed by an e-bidding procedure.

He said,” The request for the high requirements is to maintain quality and that the tasks prove cost-effective.” We anticipate that the devices will be made available to pupils by the second quarter, although purchasing may not be completed by the first trimester beginning in May.

He said proposals may be called to collect several products, such as pills, notebooks, or Chromebooks. The emphasis is on value, no specific manufacturers.

Under this project, more than 600, 000 students from Mathayom 4-6 ( grades 10-12 ) in community-based and education opportunity expansion schools have requested devices, along with high-speed internet access.
