On the other hand, fictionalised crime stories may be more “palatable” to those who are n’t too concerned with the gruesome nature of the crime, said Dr Chow. These followers may consider the stories “fun and appealing” by treating them like jigsaw puzzles.
” Common to both styles are elements of problem-solving and mental stimulation involved in making sense of sophisticated stories complete with information on investigations, signs, and the process of justice”, she said.
WHY DO MANY WOMEN JOIN TRUE CRIME, WHICH IS MORE SO?
According to BBC Science Focus, a 2010 investigation by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found that women are more likely to be drawn to true crime reports than men.
Women may enjoy true crime dramas more because of our greater sense of empathy and internal analysis, according to Dr. Chow, although both men and women are undoubtedly capable of enjoying them.
She continued:” Girls frequently exhibit greater levels of empathy and mental awareness. Real crime dramas frequently evoke emotional responses as they show suffering, emotional burden, and aspects of fairness. We might find ourselves drawn to these tales as women because we are interested in learning about the victims or understanding the mental nuances of the scammers.
