CULLING” EXPECTED” WHEN THERE ARE HYGIENE ISSUES
The birds were n’t a big deal, according to the majority of peddlers CNA spoke to. However, one barn landlord at Bukit Merah Central Food Centre complained that birds frequently flies onto chairs that consumers have occupied.  ,
Owner of a young beta fang barn, Mdm Leong, recalls a recent event where a consumer stepped away from her meals for a short while to get more sauce before discovering some pigeons next to her food.
However, Mdm Leong, who merely provided her last name, argued that the problem may not be related to culling pigeons and that maintaining sanitation is a must.
Mr. Tan from the Nature Society Singapore Bird Group emphasized that culling is “expected” when birds begin to cause health and environmental concerns.  ,
” It is good to remove quasi- local varieties, such as these wild birds, as ( they ) often severely impact the environment”, he added.  ,
He also expressed concern about extra poison of other birds and animals, including flowered goshawks, which might attack pigeons that have consumed the chemicals.  ,
He further stated that the alleged pigeons may be taken out right away to prevent unintentionally attracting animals. According to Mr. Tan, the compounds used should also be effectively disposed of in order to prevent affecting other creatures.
As for Ang Mo Kio native Mr Well, she questioned if there may be a “better approach” to deal with the problem, and also pointing out that she was no “adversely affected” by the choice.
Likewise, fellow resident Ms Siti said:” I mean to ( cull ) them… is a bit pity but if there are too many ( pigeons ), they will be bothering others”.
