Woman who fell to death from Yishun HDB block was Singaporean, not Filipino maid: MOM

SINGAPORE: According to the Ministry of Manpower( MOM) on Monday, October 16, a woman who had died after falling from an HDB wall in Yishun was Singaporean and not an immigrant Filipino home worker.

The Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act ( POFMA ) Office has been given instructions by MOM to correct Singapore Eye, Gutzy Asia, and The Online Citizen Asia’s articles and posts from last Thursday and Friday, according to a press release.

The articles and posts made false claims that the woman who died after falling off a building in Yishun was either an immigrant Filipino home employee or another Filipino worker.

According to MOM, Singapore Eye, Gutzy Asia, and The Online Citizen Asia will be required to post the modification notice on their websites and online websites.

According to the government in an article posted on the president’s fact-checking website Objectively, the correction notice must be added next to each unique post along with a link to its clarification.

As of 5:40 p.m. on Monday, Gutzy Asia had updated the best of its aforementioned article to include MOM’s clarity of the woman. There was no reference to the content in Objectively.

On The Online Citizen’s Facebook website, a correction notice was posted, but not on Singapore Eye.

At Block 874 Yishun Street 81, the officers received a call for help on October 12. Comatose, a girl was taken to the hospital, where she later passed away.

According to Gutzy Asia’s content and Facebook posts, the death was caused by” urgent concerns about the welfare of domestic workers in Singapore amidst new similar incidents ,” according to MOM in the content on Factually. This” spark ( ed ) calls for greater oversight and reforms to ensure their safety and wellbeing ,” according to the article and posts. & nbsp,

This is deceptive because it implies that the government has not adequately overseen the welfare of migrant domestic workers( MDWs ), according to MOM.

” MOM has implemented a number of steps to help the mental health of our MDWs.”
